What does block paving cost per m² in Málaga in 2026?

There are two published rates, depending on who supplies the materials. Labour only costs 16 € per m² plus IVA and covers laying, levelling, jointing and compaction of pavers you provide, or laying onto a base that already exists. Turnkey costs 84 € per m² plus IVA, for areas up to 150 m², and includes everything from the compacted aggregate to the finished joints.

The turnkey figure lists its contents explicitly: zahorra, soil-cement, concrete pavers in the 10×20×6 cm format, a gravel laying bed, kerbs and documentation. Kerbs are not included in the labour-only rate and are always priced separately there. The rates are indicative: what makes one job differ from another is the condition of the surface, the access, the slope, the area and the type of paving.

Think of the published figure as the price of the paving itself on a straightforward site. It is what you pay per square metre once the ground is accessible and nothing unusual has to be dealt with first. Everything that makes your property different from that baseline is quoted on top as a named line, so you can question each one. That structure also makes it easy to see, before you commit, which part of the budget is fixed and which part depends on what is found under the old surface.

Most owners with an empty or old drive need the turnkey rate. Labour only is mainly for new builds where another trade has prepared the base, or for owners who already have pavers. The detail of both is set out on block paving cost per m².

How does IVA change the figure?

IVA is Spanish VAT, and it is added at 21 % on top of every published rate. That turns 16 € per m² into 19,36 € and 84 € per m² into 101,64 € gross. Owners used to prices that already include VAT sometimes compare a Spanish net figure with a gross figure from home, which makes Spain look cheaper than it is.

Every quote we send shows three numbers: the net amount, the IVA and the total. When you receive quotes from other contractors, check which of the three you are looking at. A quote that does not say whether IVA is included cannot be compared until that is clarified.

What would a typical villa driveway cost?

Multiplying the published rate by the area gives the base figure. The examples below are illustrations using the turnkey rate; they do not include separate lines for access, removing an old surface or extra base correction, which depend on the property.

Above 150 m², the turnkey rate is studied individually and a discount can be applied, without a fixed published percentage. Which extras can be added to the basic rate?

The basic rate covers a standard surface. Real properties often add something to it, and each addition appears in the quote as its own line so you can see where the money goes. The most common extras on Costa del Sol villas and townhouses are these:

• Removing an existing surface, such as old concrete, tiles or worn pavers, and disposing of the rubble.
• Difficult access through a narrow gate, a side passage or steps.
• Extra base correction where the ground turns out to be soft or wet once it is opened.
• Drainage channels across the bottom of a sloping drive.
• Many cuts around manholes, trees and curved planters.
• Kerbs on labour-only jobs, priced per linear metre.

Is a repair or a renovation cheaper than new paving?

Often yes, if the problem allows it. Lifting and relaying sunken pavers with base correction starts from 30 € per m² plus IVA, and only the affected zone is charged. Renovating an existing stamped concrete, concrete or paved surface without replacing it costs 15 € per m² plus IVA, including cleaning, crack repair, masking, two coats of tinted acrylic resin and a protective coat.

The choice depends on why you want the work. A drive that is structurally sound but faded is a candidate for renovation. One with dips along the wheel tracks needs base repair, not paint. How can I get a firm figure from abroad?

Send photos and an approximate area, and you will receive an itemised quote in English. You do not need to be in Spain. Four to eight daylight photos showing the whole area, the access and any damaged zones are usually enough, and a rough measurement with a tape is fine for a first quote.

The quote states whether the area is measured or estimated, and any item that depends on hidden conditions is marked as conditional.
